I was informed by my sister that my niece had Leukemia.  I knew Jeff Ludrof was dealing with a type of cancer, so I emailed Jeff Ludrof and asked if the Deo family could send prayers out to my niece.

I heard about Amaya when I was at the Home Office and I was speaking with Jeff Ludrof and he told me that Tammy has a niece who lives in Wisconsin and is suffering from Hodgkin’s disease.  He asked me if I’d be willing to visit with Amaya and her family to let them know that they were in the thoughts and prayers of the Deo family and he suggested that I bring an Ernie puppet since this puppet has comforted many children at their time of loss.  When I returned to Wisconsin I contacted Amaya’s parents and I asked them if I could visit with them and they told me that Deo Insurance’s timing couldn’t be better since Amaya was about to celebrate her three year old birthday party.  She was also going to receive, later that day, some additional cancer treatments.

When Joe came to deliver the puppet was actually her birthday and she was ecstatic that a puppet was delivered to her but she was even more ecstatic that she got a new friend in Joe.

When I visited Amaya I took with me the Ernie puppet, as well as a Toys R Us gift certificate that the Waukesha team had contributed towards and a really big birthday card.  I was really glad that I had the opportunity to meet such a courageous member of the Deo family.
